25 Things Dollar Stores Are Keeping Away From You

DOLLARS AND SENSE

The most common variety store chains in the United States tend to have “dollar” in their names, but that doesn’t necessarily imply a certain cost or even mean that there are similar products in each store. We even found some items you shouldn’t buy at a dollar store. We did some digging and found out some of the secrets behind “dollar stores,” and why they’ve become such a large part of the U.S. consumer landscape.

Wow. How about a follow up story or two? I might suggest the evils of the truly greedy high end department stores, such as Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. While you’re at it try your hand at the relentless upsizing of the American Home. Despite relentless reporting on the widespread poverty among Millennials they have decidedly upscale taste when it comes to living quarters. Snarkiness disclosure here: I am a boomer born in 1956, the year with the second biggest crop of babies in history. I grew up with four other boomer sibs and, like many of my compatriots, lived until I was 18 in a 1,200 square foot house. Owing to this frugal upbringing I shop for bargains in everything including, yes, at dollar stores. So does my sister in law, an MD. Put down your Whole Foods grocery list and get out into the real world that the rest of us occupy.

I shop at dollar tree b/c there are items i want that are cheap, i don’t buy it if I know its cheaper else where.
I shop at dollar general bc it is small and convenient, no huge parking lot, no huge store to walk around. sometimes i just need what i need,

I enjoy my local Dollar Tree. Why would I want to pay higher prices for the same things elsewhere? I found your article ridiculous. Your headline makes it sound like the dollar stores are robbing their customers. I have found you get what you pay for…..enjoy the items you but, but remember, you only paid a dollar for them.

Another brilliant article from you folks. Headlines such as ‘they make many dollars’ illustrate your stupidity. I am positive your readers are more intelligent than your writers and truly resent being fed such drivel. I am quite aware that containers of items such as Wish Bone salad dressing are, indeed, smaller than they are at my local Stop and Shop, but the latter usually charges more fore those larger containers, too. Wow, that’s a revelation! I tend to buy quite a lot of stuff at Dollar Tree that IS good …such as big bottles of that LAs effing awesome laundry detergent and it’s companion stain spray. It works great and people who will fork over a 10 bill for Tide pods are just stupid.
